Background Information: This study is part of a research project on social networks. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms individuals use for making complex social decisions.

Procedures: If you agree to be in this study, we will ask you to read a set of instructions and answer a few questions. You will then be asked to watch a short video and complete an exercise individually without communicating with other participants. After completing the task you will be asked to complete a brief survey. The entire exercise and survey will take approximately 45 minutes.

Risks and Benefits of Being in the Study: We do not anticipate any risks for you participating in this study, other than those encountered in day-to-day life. You will have the opportunity to practice your social network skills and become aware of factors that might affect your accuracy.

Compensation: In return for your participation you will be entered into a lottery to win a $50 cash prize. Six prizes will be awarded.

Voluntary Nature of Participation: Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relations with the University [or with other cooperating entities]. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw at any time without affecting those relationships. Decide to withdraw early will not affect your minimum payment.

Confidentiality: The records of this study will be kept private. In any sort of report we might publish, we will not include any information that will make it possible to identify you, however, you should be aware that email transmissions are not secure, and your participation (not your specific responses) may be observable by a third party. Research records will be kept on a password protected computer and in a locked file; only the researchers will have access to the records.
